Abstract

This article analyzes the Spanish colonial discourse on Morocco, especially in the context of the Rif wars. For the most reactionary sectors of the army of Africa, this colonial enterprise is conceived as a project of national regeneration that implies the recovery of the imperial nature of Spain. It is analyzed how, in the discourse of these sectors, this national project is based on the resurgence of a supposed national virility and how the nation is represented through masculine images. We will therefore study how gender has served to imagine the nation, specifically through masculinity. [Author]
