Abstract | This article travels far from the image of the good GI by revealing the American soldier's practice of raping women during the liberation of France. Though most rapes were isolated acts by individual rogue soldiers, the authors argue that they were due above all to the seuxal frustration of military units and the crimes shed light on the attitude of the American army throughout the European continent as well as the interracial relations between black soldiers and the white population. |
