Abstract

The dislocation of the vast colonial Peruvian viceroyalty and the construction, on its ruins, of the modern Republic of Peru is one of the great knots of South American history. This knot is composed of several threads: the profound changes in the global economy, the influence of the Atlantic revolutions, the local impact of the rupture of the Spanish empire, the political mutations that gave rise to a republic of citizens and many others. However, the thread of war, political violence and the military as a determining factor in the tortuous process of state (re) construction in Peru is focused on this collective work led by McEvoy and Rabinovich.
