Abstract

Bordels mobiles de campagne, known in shorthand as BMCs, were mobile brothels first organized in 1918 by the government to provide prostitution services to French servicemen fighting in isolated areas, such as the front line. This practice continued through the First World War and was repeated during World War II, the First Indochina War, and the Algerian War. This volume traces the history of these mobile brothels from their inception to the shuttering of the last one in 2003.
