Abstract

This book chapter titled in English "Hero's Mothers, Warrior Brides and Amazons: Ideas of 'Patriotic' Femininity during the Time of the Wars of Liberation" in the edied volume  Militär und Gesellschaft im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert (Military and Society in the 19th and 20th Centuries) explores the discourse on patriotic feminity in the period of the Anti-Napoleonic Wars from 1806 bis 1815 in Prussia. It focuses on the different constructions of female spaces and roles in the imagines German nations, from the mothers of the young men  who were asked to vounteer for war and the soldier's wives who were supposed to send there men into battle to the small number of women who dressed as men an joined the Prussian army in the so-called War of Liberation  of 1813-15.
