Abstract | This article explores (trans)gender performances among prisoners of war in Russia between 1914 and 1920. The focus is on German-speaking POWs in Russia camps who created Pennytheater performences during their time in prison as a distraction and a form of expression of the fragility of their masculinity in the POW camps. |
