Abstract

This 1942 romantic drama by Michael Curtiz won an Oscar for Best Picture. It is based on Murray Burnett and Joan Alison's unproduced stage play, Everybody Comes to Rick's, and stars Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, and Paul Henreid. Casablanca is often cited as one of the best films of all time. An American expatriate who owns an upscale nightclub unexpectedly reunites with his former lover in Morocco in the early days of World War II. He must choose between his love for her or help her husband, a Czech resistance leader, escape the Vichy-controlled territory.
