Abstract

A young French man eager to participate in World War II reveals how easily the French capitulated to the Germans. Denied permission to join the Resistance because of his youth, Lucien turns to the Carlingue. He uses his newfound power to insinuate himself into a young Jewish girl's life. He opts to protect her rather than follow through with his orders to identify and persecute Jews.
