Abstract | The film is a loose remake of the 1967 American film The Dirty Dozen. The plot revolves around a group of rogue American soldiers that were drafted into a special war mission in 1944: Berle, a deserter, Nick Colasanti, a petty thief, Fred, nicknamed "Assassin", Tony, a mutineer, and Lieutenant Yeager who was arrested for refusing to execute orders to kill. They are all sentenced to death for their crimes and are shipped to a prisoners' camp near the Ardennes. However, the convoy is attacked by the Germans and they survive and flee with the intention of crossing the border to Switzerland. The film attracted critics' attention again after Quentin Tarantino used the title as the inspiration for his 2009 film Inglourious Basterds. |
