Saving Private Ryan is a 1998 American war film that portrays the Normandy (D-Day) landings and  its immediate aftermath. Directed by Steven Spielberg it stars Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, and Tom Sizemore, won five Oscars and went on to become an iconic American war film. he film follows United States Army Rangers Captain John H. Miller and his squad as they search for a paratrooper, Private First Class James Francis Ryan, the last surviving brother of three servicemen killed in action.
