Produced after the demise of the Cold War, this light-hearted American comedy spoofs its culture. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, an eccentric scientist moves his family to a well-stocked bomb shelter. Thirty-five years later, his son Adam emerges from below ground. His late 1950s and early 1960s language, mannerisms, and tastes contrast sharply with the young woman who helps him navigate the strange landscape of late 1990s southern California.
