Abstract

During the London Blitz, two young working-class women fall in love with Canadian soldiers. When their new husbands go off to war, Lily and Sophia leave for Canada. Once there, they receive different receptions from their in-laws. Lily decides to stay and raise her daughter with her shell-shocked husband, while Sophia returns home.
