Abstract

Although a committed pacifist, Mabel Dearmer followed her husband to the war front in Serbia in 1915, where he served as a chaplain in the British Red Cross, and died of typhoid the same year. Before her untimely death, she sent several letters home, which are reproduced and published in this volume. The book begins with a brief biography of Dearmer's life by her friend and Irish political Stephen Gwynn.
