Abstract

This autobiographical account by Emma Chenault Kelly (1905-1997), born in Springfield, IL, tells her war experiences in 1944-45, when she was a private in the Women's Army Corps, Bainbridge, GA, and Tyndal Field, FL. For most of her working life Kelly was a teacher: 1927-28 she taught second grade students at Washington School in Charleston, from 1928 to 1935 she taught at public schools in Cicero, IL, and from 1935-1942 at Madison High School in New Jersey.  After the Second World War, she started teaching again at Eastern Illinois University, where she stayed until 1967.
