Sapper Dorothy Lawrence, the Only English Woman Soldier, Late Royal Engineers, 51st division, 179th Tunnelling Company, B.E.F.

Aged 19, at the outbreak of World War I, the author traveled to France and posed as a man in the British Expeditionary Forces where she worked as a sapper digging tunnels on the western front. She was later arrested when it was discovered she was a woman. In this volume, which was heavily censored by the War Office, she recounts her experiences.
