Abstract

Northwest Passage is a 1940 Technicolor film, based on a novel by Kenneth Roberts titled Northwest Passage (1937). A young artist and his friend accidently join Roger's Ranger during the Seven Years War (1756–1763). Led by Maj. Robert Rogers, they travel through the Quebec wilderness with the mission to destroy the French-allied Abenaki tribe. The film shows the Rangers engaging in overt racism, casual cannibalism, and gleeful violence.
