Abstract

A semi-fictional account of Thomas Jefferson's years in Paris before the French Revolution. French liberals turned to Jefferson, who wrote the Declaration of Independence and was US minister to France between 1784-89, to guide them toward democracy. Jefferson learns more about the arts and sciences and falls in love with two women, including his slave Sally Hemings.
