Marie Antoinette is a 2006 historical comedy-drama film written and directed by Sofia Coppola and starring Kirsten Dunst. It is based on the life of Queen Marie Antoinette (1755-93) in the years leading up to the French Revolution. Marie Antoinette, born in the splendor of the Habsburg Empire, is married to the young King of France. She lives a life of excess luxury at Versailles, eventually triggering the uprising that will lead to the French Revolution. It won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design.
