España 1936

A short documentary containing newsreel footage of the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939). Filmmakers Luis Buñuel and Jean-Paul Le Chanois focus on the inhumanity, death and destruction of war, rather than the politics of war. Although Buñuel made the film in association with the French Communist Party, the film lacks a lot of the overt biases common to political documentaries of this era. This notable style of Buñuel stands in contrast to other politically based documentaries of the time including Leni Riefenstahl's Triumph of the Will (1935).
