Abstract

Based on the novel by Ernest Hemingway, a volunteer of the American International Brigade sacrifices his life for the Republican cause in the Spanish Civil War. Tasked with blowing up a strategic bridge, Robert Jordan runs into resistance from guerilla fighters. Their leader believes Jordan's mission will only endanger his group. Maria and other guerillas, however, agree to help. Though successful, Jordan sacrifices himself to let Maria, the woman he loves, escape.
