A French widow seeks to rehabilitate her husband's tarnished image after the Algerian War of Independence. After a historian publicly accuses Captain Marcel Caron of torturing Algerians, Nicole Caron sues him. The trial recreates the last two weeks of his life, serving as a larger metaphor to investigate and exonerate the French for committing human rights violations in the former colony.
