Tora! Tora! Tora! presents the American and Japanese perspectives on the days leading up to the bombing of Pearl Harbor in December 1941, which precipitated the entry of the United States into World War II. Negotiations between the U.S. and Japan over trade embargoes break down, prompting Japanese military officers to plan a pre-emptive strike. American military officials intercept Japanese communications, but they neither know where the Japanese will attack nor believe it will happen. The film was produced by Elmo Williams and directed by Richard Fleischer, Toshio Masuda and Kinji Fukasaku, and stars an ensemble cast including Martin Balsam, Joseph Cotten, So Yamamura, E.G. Marshall, James Whitmore, Tatsuya Mihashi, Takahiro Tamura, Wesley Addy, and Jason Robards. It was Masuda and Fukasaku's first English-language film, and first non-Japanese film.
