Abstract

Adapted from Simone de Beauvoir's novel of the same name, first published in French in 1945, The Blood of Others depicts the lives of several characters in Paris leading up to and during the Second World War, exploring themes of freedom and responsibility. In German-occupied France, Jean Blomart (Michael Ontkean), member of the French Communist Party and the French Resistance, sits by a bed in which his lover Hélène (Jodie Foster) lies dying. Through a series of flashbacks, we learn about both characters and their relationship to each other.
