An epic spanning interwar and postwar Europe, Head in the Clouds focuses on the lives of three young lovers torn between pursuing their passions and defending their homelands. Gilda, an American-French woman, and her lovers Guy and Mia live together in 1930s France before the Spanish Civil War disrupts their lives. Mia volunteers as a nurse in her homeland, while Guy fights in the British Battalion. During World War II, Guy finds Gilda again, who is assumed to be a Nazi sympathizer but is part of the French Resistance.
