| Abstract | Une affaire de femmes relays the true story of Marie-Louise Giraud (1903-1943), the last French woman to be executed in Vichy France. With her husband initially in a prison camp, Marie supported her family as an abortionist, which was illegal, and rented her bedroom to prostitutes. Her financial success threatened her husband, who turned her over to Vichy officials for her crimes against the state. Giraud was guillotined on the morning of July 30, 1943, for having performed 27 abortions in the region of Cherbourg. |
