The Devil's Disciple

Based on the George Bernard Shaw play of the same title, initially published in 1897, two men switch identities during the American Revolutionary War. Outcast, rake, and godless Dick Dudgeon unexpectedly inherits his father's estate, and the only person to treat him well is minister Anthony Anderson. When the British come to arrest Anderson for treason, Dudgeon pretends to be him. Anderson, who fled and joined the Patriots, rescues him just in time before he is hanged. The film aired as part of the Theatre Night series, which broadcasts adaptations of classic and contemporary stage plays.
