Abstract

This West German film uses the Battle of Stalingrad in World War II to convey an anti-war and anti-Nazi message. Lieutenant Wisse battles with his new commander over war strategies. Wisse begins to question the war and his commitment to Nazi ideology as he witnesses the costs of battle on his soldiers and the citizens of Stalingrad.
