Abstract | In this chapter, the author argues that in post-war Latvia, the image of the Soviet “new” woman was an offer of integration that most women accepted against the background of war trauma and the need to ensure survival. However, integration into the Soviet system flattened individual war experiences and discouraged discussion of varied experiences for years after the war had ended. |
