Abstract

The hell of Majdanek lasted almost three years. The trial, which ran from 1975 to 1982 in the Düsseldorf Regional Court, took almost twice as long. For forty years, the survivors of this concentration camp - victims and perpetrators - kept their terrible memories. They should not be forgotten. To the history of wars, of heroic and atrocious deeds, which has always been a man's history, the voices of women must also be heard: Women who were tortured and murdered, and also those who tortured and murdered. The struggle to understand them, the desire to discover and eradicate the roots of cruelty, haunted Ingrid Müller-Münch throughout the Majdanek trial, which she observed as a reporter. This book records what seemed irrelevant to the justice system: the everyday experiences in the vicinity of hell. The everyday life of the women who were in charge here and the women who were their victims. [publisher]
