This volume is the memoir of Elsie Knocker (1885-1978), later the Baroness de T'Serclaes, a British nurse and ambulance driver who worked on the front lines during World War I and is credited with saving thousands of lives on the Western Front in Belgium. During World War II, she joined the Women's Auxiliary Air Force.
