Abstract | This account of the Spanish-American War and its consequences focuses mainly on the role of President William McKinley, and argues that McKinley was not dragged into the war with Spain by the "yellow press" and public opinion, but rather that his distrust of the Spanish government and his Cuban policy were reasonable and consistent. The author also frames America's global expansion beginning in the early twentieth century as a logical result of the outcome of the Spanish-American War. |
