Abstract

This chapter in a broad volume about masculinity addresses the implications of social theories used in researching men and masculinities. In particular, the author focuses on two types of social theories: what he calls direct gender hierarchy theories that emphasize the social primacy of male dominance, and structural inequality theories that are more concerned with the social structural relations of gender inequality.
