Der Bildbestand der Deutschen Kolonialgesellschaft

The image archives of the German Colonial Society (DKG, 1887–1936) have been preserved as part of a project to microfilm and preserve vulnerable collections of the City and University Library of Frankfurt am Main: this online archive of some 70,000 items has been collected from those color and half-tone photographs microfilmed in the 1990s. This website has been created with the support of the library, as well as the Computing Center of the Goethe University Frankfurt and the Department of Surveying and Cartography of the Academy of Sciences, Dresden. The site includes an introductory essay explaining the activities of the DKG, as well as an archive of the photographs searchable by place and other keywords. Limited search functionality in English is available, but the site is primarily in German.
