Abstract	One of the last movies produced and distributed before the start of the Cultural Revolution in 1966, Tunnel War celebrates communal resistance during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945). After suffering casualties and defeats by Chinese soldiers, a group of Japanese villagers use underground tunnels to survive. The Chinese villagers soon use them to launch a successful counterattack.
