Abstract

Gender mainstreaming was established as a major global strategy for the promotion of gender equality in the Beijing Platform for Action from the Fourth United Nations World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995. Mainstreaming works to situate gender equality issues at the center of analyses and policy decisions, medium-term plans, programme budgets, and institutional structures and processes. This publication discusses new findings regarding gender mainstreaming and its application in specific contexts such as policy analysis, research, or technical assistance before discussing institutional development for gender mainstreaming.
