Abstract

The present anthology aims to focus on a peripheral region, the Westmünsterland and the eastern Netherlands. The starting point for this is the Eighty Years' War, i.e. the struggle of the States General against the Spanish crown, a war that did not stop at the border to the Reich, but also included the neighbouring landscapes. In contrast to the title, however, it is not only about this conflict, but also about the Thirty Years' War. In particular, the Westmünsterland, in addition to the military of the States General, had to expect just as much marches and billeting of troops of the warring parties in the Reich, starting with Ligistian-imperial soldiers and those who went into action for the cause of the Palatinate, up to Swedish and Hessian units.

The volume contains a total of ten contributions (seven in German, three in Dutch), which again refer to a small-scale unit, a place or a dominion within the border region under study.
