Abstract

Those who during the eighteenth century cared for sick and wounded British soldiers included some of the greatest medical men of the age. This paper deals with the people who served the sick directly--their main duties, environment, motivation, competence. Its scope is limited to the War of the Austrian Succession, the Seven Years' War, and the American Revolution in their Continental or North American contexts.
