Abstract

This German monograph published in 1977 was the first detailed study of women's paid work in Nazi Germany, covering the period between 1933 and 1945. It goes beyond the level of ideology and explores the actual conditions of working women  in the prewar and war period: their situation in the labor market, and their behavior and attitudes in the face, successively, of depression, rearmament, and war. It shows the paradoxes between Nazi ideology and political practice, especially during war time.
