Die Kaserne

This book chapter on the history of barracks in the 18th and 19th century is part of the German edited volume "Places of Everyday Life: Miniatures from European Cultural History" that offers a new  spacial history of European culture and life from below. It presents essays of the countless places that matter in everyday history in the village and city landscapes: from the field to the factory, from the well to the mine, from the shops, workshops, offices and town halls, to the salons, the cafes, the reading circles, the clubs, the offices, ports and barracks.
