Abstract | An updated version of a classic Cold War film, The Manchurian Candidate reveals the dark connections between militarism, capitalism, and world power during the War on Terror. Raymond Shaw, a decorated hero of the Gulf War, rises to political power thanks to his mother, a U.S. Senator. His former captain, Ben Marco, begins to doubt the story of how Shaw saved his platoon from enemy fire and seeks him out. The two discover they are controlled by a multi-national corporation dedicated to advancing war for profit, a secret that threatens both of their lives. |
