Abstract

Related to the author's academic research on the subject, this article offers a brief evaluation of the efficacy of the initial American strategy upon entering the conflict in Afghanistan in the fall of 2001. Aiding the Northern Alliance and other anti–Taliban forces already on the ground, the US employed special forces, airpower, and other resources well in advance of the process of inserting large contingents of regular ground troups.
