Abstract

Despite the image in popular media of women in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries as passive, in fact, women were present en masse for all struggles for the abolition of slavery and then in the fight against its reestablishment, despite being excluded during periods of militarization. This chapter presents a brief chronology and analysis of women's involvement in the abolition movement.
