Abstract

Paraguayan women played a significant role in Latin America's most devastating conflict, the  War of the Triple Alliance, also known as the Paraguayan War, 1864-1870. A number of Paraguayan women actively sought involvement in the struggle against the allied armies of the Triple Alliance, Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay. A much larger number of women, especially rural women of the lower classes, found themselves caught up in the struggle.
