Abstract

Moscow on the Hudson is a 1984 American romantic comedy-drama about Vladimir Ivanoff, a Russian saxophonist (Robin Williams) visiting New York with a circus troupe, who suddenly decides to defect from the USSR during a shopping trip to Bloomingdale's, a department store. Despite Soviet pressure and the watchful eye of the KGB, he remains adamant and is granted asylum. Although adjusting to American life is more difficult than he expected, the film ends with Ivanoff deciding that it has all been worth it.
