Abstract

In this award-winning Cold War thriller based on a John le Carré novel, a British spy goes to great lengths to uncover intelligence. After the MI6 seemingly fires former West Berlin office chief Alec Leamas, Germans recruit him as a potential defector. His ruse is exposed, but Leamas achieves his goal of learning the identity of a double agent. The discovery has consequences for the British and East German agents.
