Abstract

The article provides information on William Laws Calley Jr., a low-ranking U.S. Army officer who was accused of being responsible for the death of many civilians in Son My, Vietnam on March 16, 1968. It describes the events that took place during the My Lai massacre and the public support Calley received after being found guilty of murder. It also discusses the significance of Calley's case to how the U.S. should conduct war and how a war crime should be regarded.
