Abstract

What role do women play in the Ḥamās?
Their participation in the Islamist movement is examined on the basis of five key questions: How are women involved in the structures? What contribution do they make to the survival and success of the Ḥamās? To what extent do women feel themselves represented and how influential are they within and outside the Ḥamās structures? What significance does the commitment to women have? And how will the role of women develop in the future?
The author carried out months of field research in the Palestinian territories. The Islamic scholar spoke with Ḥamās activists, observed their lifeworld and examined original sources such as seitenamās websites and print publications.
The book is also addressed to researchers from the Islamic, political and gender sciences and offers a new approach for those who deal with the tension between political participation, religion and gender order. [From Publisher]
