This film is a semiautobiographical project by director John Boorman about Bill Rohan, a nine-year old boy who grows up in Britian during the Blitz of WWII. Living on the outskirts of London, Bill experiences the exhilaration and horror of war as he prowls the ruins of bombed houses and learns about sex, death, love, hypocrisy, and the failings of adults.
