Abstract

Brothers Manchán and Ruán Magan examine an event that occurred in 1922 in their grandmother, Sighle Humphreys', house, which was then the headquarters of the IRA. One November morning in 1922, a troop of Free State soldiers, acting on a tip off, raided the house--an event that would have critical implications to the closing stages of the Irish Civil war. What exactly occurred during the raid has been a matter of official and family controversy ever since. The raid has been reconstructed on film in its entirety. Interviewees join together to tease out the story in an effort to achieve a fresh examination of the issues, the events, the passions and personalities of Ireland's struggle for nationhood.
