Abstract

Mise Éire (Irish for "I [am] Ireland") is a 1959 documentary film by George Morrison, which dealt with key figures and events in Irish history from the 1896 through 1918, using contemporary newsreel footage and still photos. It features the momentous events surrounding Easter Week 1916, footage of Dublin during the Rising, and of the main protagonists, including Tom Clarke, James Connolly, Éamon de Valera, and Irish poet and Republican revolutionary leader Patrick Pearse. The director followed the release of this documentary with another film, Saoirse? (1961), set between 1919 and 1923 during the Irish War of Independence and Civil War.
